RE: Good spill proof gas can for filling generator?

Let us know what you think of the No Spill
Remember ... the trick is to push the button BEFORE you want to pour to release any pent-up pressure ... then release the button to seal the container again ...
Then you can pick up, tilt, any angle you want, then press the button to pour ... when you are done pouring, release the button ... no drip

RE: Good spill proof gas can for filling generator?

I think my 2.5 gallon "No Spill" was $21 and change at my honda dealer ... but I just went to the website and found that a small town hardware store up the road from me is also a dealer ... I might go up there and see how much they want for one (I could use two)(I didn't know they had a 5 gallon one).
Folks, I know this sounds like an info-mercial ... but go to the nospill.com website ... there's a boating magazine article that "tests" gas cans ... and concludes that the staff favorite is the No Spill.

RE: Good spill proof gas can for filling generator?

I got the same can as 2oldman ... pictured above ... at a Honda generator dealer also.
He's right ... it's the most amazing gas can I've ever owned. It doesn't spill a drop.
See that little green button? BEFORE you pour, you press that once to release the pressure inside the can ... then release it ...
You then undo the yellow cap on the front ... and can tilt the can every which way without a drop coming out .... until you press and hold in the little green button.
Marvelous can. Comes in a one gallon and a 2.5 gallon (which I got) ...
I'm pretty lazy, but I'm going to go out to the garage now and see what the name of the darn thing is ...
Just a minute ...
Ha! The brand name is "No Spill" ... and the label says there's a website ... nospill.com.
I'll be darned. There is a website www.nospill.com
It's the most expensive gas can I've ever bought ... but boy, is it worth it.

RE: Do you lock your RV?

fordsooperetc>>The problem with not locking it? The thieves already assume that the RV is locked! Therefore without even trying to door, they will obtain access by destroying
Oh man, I never thought about a thief, in a hurry, just breaking a window and/or popping a door without trying.
Maybe I should just put a sign on the door ... "DOOR OPEN ... Please don't break it!"
Ha!
Also because I've never filed a claim for theft ... never thought about insurance not covering without an unlocked door. Hmmmm. Might have to rethink my position here (By the by, it's not my wife's position. She thinks I'm crazy.)

Do you lock your RV?

Ok, seems like we are reading more and more about rv break-ins.
I've got a question ...
When you leave your RV (in your yard, storage lot, or campground) do you lock the rv door?
I don't.
Now, I sometimes keep a couple hundred thousand dollars in one of the cabinets (yeah, right) but other than that ... I'd rather lose a few items than deal with the grief of a broken door & lock.

RE: How to store Equalizer?

Y'all's hitch heads must be a lot lighter than mine ...
I get that sucker up in there at the beginning of the season and leave it attached & locked until Thanksgiving, or so. (Much to the chagrin of my wife's shins)(She complains about hitting it all the time ... but I don't care, it's staying put).
If I want to lift weights, I'll go to the gym (not saying I'm going to the gym, either)(I'm going camping).

RE: Change 2 things, what would they be?

Two biggest things I'd change.
1. I'd spending more time camping.
2. I would gotten into RV'ing earlier.
Time's a wasting, folks. Weather's getting nice.
Time to go camping and quit talking about it!
We're days away from heading out on a 7 week, 5400 mile trip.
I'm not changing anything ... except my longitude, latitude and attitude.

RE: Thefts from new RVs

Unfortunately, here in Illinois ... thieves are becoming more and more aware that new RV's come with flat screen tv's ... which are easy pickin' for any scumbucket with a small prybar.
They are also stealing propane bottles off the front of rigs ... at my storage lot.
I chained the gas bottles (only thing that's going to solve is make it harder for me to take the bottles off for refills).
But, hey, at least I feel like I'm doing something.
Now, please, we don't need to hear from any of you "I would never store a trailer at a storage lot" people ... I ... and others ... have no choice. Our subdivision does not allow RV parking in front or along side your home.

RE: Will old antenna work with the new digital tv boxes?

raise the antenna, switch on the booster (as others have said)(if you have a booster), "scan" for channels on the converter box. If none, or just a few, rotate your antenna a little bit (said 25 degrees), scan again ... kinda like fishin' ... you don't know exactly what you are going to get.
Keep rotating the antenna ... and re-scanning. You'll find some stations. I'm sure of it.

RE: Digital to Analog TV Converter in RV --- Wow!

Glad to hear the digital converter will run off a little 75 watt inverter. I have a couple of those ... and a cigarette plug near the antenna booster ... and a 2 for 1 plug adapter ... so I'll be able to run my black and white tv and the converter on 12 volt!
While I really wasn't planning this ... since I'm a couple days from running a Illinois-Colorado-Lake Louise-Jasper-Fort McMoney ... when I'm in Canada, I'll be able to "retain" my analog ability by just pulling the converter out of the set up.

RE: pre-paid tolls wHTT or TT

On Chicago toll roads ... you need to stop and pay for the trailer if you are using an ez pass for just the tow vehicle.
Or you could get a second ez pass for the tow vehicle/trailer.
Now the real bummer is the Chicago toll roads a few years ago no longer "counts" trailer axles and jacked the toll for all tow vehicle/trailers up to the same charge as a semi.
So, I started avoiding the Chicago toll roads ... because the cost is ridiculous .

Oh yeah ... RV DIRECT also filled the 30 pound gas bottles ... AND installed a FREE deep cycle battery in my Jayco as part of their delivery process.

RE: RV Wholesalers vs the local guy

rv dealer mark1228>>you are paying for PDI anyway
Mark, I've bought four rigs and have never paid for a PDI. Of course, my local Jayco dealer tried to charge me $1,600 for "dealer prep" in his quote so I suppose you'd say part of that was his PDI.
$1,600 dealer prep ... plus $800 quote for shipping from Indiana to Illinois.
$2,400 "pack" in his quote.
Do you know how much RV Direct charged me?
$0 dealer prep $0 shipping if I picked it up at their full-service dealership, Des Moines (Iowa) RV.
So, before we even talked price ... RV Direct was $2,400 less.
Since you say you are the general manager of an RV Dealership ... you might instruct your salesmen that perhaps a first-time buyer would pay a $1,600 dealer prep "pack", not knowing any better ... but tell your sales force not to chase a seasoned customer out the door with such nonsense.

RE: RV Wholesalers vs the local guy

a.k.hillbilly>when you bought from RV direct, did they barter
The way it worked for me ... there was no bartering.
I filled out a form online with the various options ... submitted it ... they responded minutes later with an email, asking that I call a salesperson, Rebecca ... who immediately after calling her, emailed me a price quote.
It was so much lower than the two area Jayco dealers that I never thought to barter.
I was more than happy with the price. The whole process, from pricing to delivery, was the smoothest, no hassle, no buyer's remorse process I've ever experienced.

RE: If Price Didn't Matter, What Trailer Would You Buy?

I'd keep my current Jayco and buy several isolated, private pieces of property for campsites ... a couple of mountaintop wilderness ones, a few lakeside lots, and an oceanfront or two (although difficult to get isolated oceanfront these days)(maybe somewhere in Nova Scotia).

RE: If you can climb onto your roof ...

>>steps
Obviously hiking isn't one of my strong points ... and to "climb the rock" involves steps ... as do most of the trails around the lodge that go down to the river ... but on the far east side of the park, there is one trail that goes back into Illinois Canyon that is fairly level and wide enough for a chair, until you hit a creek. We also like to hang out away from the crowd in the Lone Point Shelter area.
http://dnr.state.il.us/LANDS/landmgt/parks/sitemaps/starved.pdf
The campground is fairly large ... with two paved loops ... plenty of room to roll (after you clear the speed bumps!)
Except for the big weekends (memorial day, 4th july, labor day, Columbia Day and a thing called the Burgoo Festival), you'll have no problem getting a handicapped spot. And even on the big weekends, there's usually a few hc spots open till just after dark. And of course, weekdays are wide open.

RE: You can never go home again

I retired long ago ... and miss the everyday interaction with folks too.
But, for everything, there is a season.
And now is the time for my wife and I to RV into the future.
We can ... and do ... make new friends along the way.
